Malvern, PA - Curry Durborow, a physical therapist at Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital, received the 2012 Advocate Award from the Anapol Schwartz Foundation in a presentation at Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital last week. The award recognizes efforts to help individuals affected by disabling injuries lead better, more productive lives.
Durborow was selected from five finalists through online voting. As part of the prize, the Foundation presents a $5,000 grant to the charity of the winner’s choice. Durborow contributed her $5,000 prize money to the Brain Injury Association of PA. The presentation was made by Joel Feldman, managing partner of the Anapol Schwartz law firm, and Drew Naegele, MD, Executive Director of Beechwood Rehabilitation Services, accepted the donation on behalf of BIAPA.
“It was really an honor to be selected to receive the Advocate Award,” said Durborow. “The support in raising awareness, as well as for those who have sustained brain injuries and their families, is inspiring. This grant will enable the Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania to continue to prevent brain injuries and improve the quality of life for people who already have experienced brain injury, as well as their family members. The support, education, advocacy and research the Association provides are critical to so many.”
Durborow, who specializes in locomotor training at BMRH, established an Annual Race for Recovery 5k, held in West Chester since 2009 for runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes. Proceeds from the event benefit BIAPA.
