[Paoli, PA, October 2012]—Demonstrating a commitment to family-centered care, Paoli Hospital, Main Line Health, recently celebrated the opening of the newly expanded and redesigned Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The event included tours of the new unit and an opportunity to learn more about how Paoli is providing care for some of the hospital’s smallest and most vulnerable patients from the moment they enter the world.
The new NICU features technically sophisticated equipment, including a central monitoring system that allows for constant observation of the vital statistics of every baby from the nursing station, more personalized space around each baby so parents can become more involved in their child’s care, and several other elements specifically focused on promoting safety, reducing errors, and embracing a family-focused environment.
The NICU is part of the $11 million renovation and expansion of Paoli’s Family Centered Maternity Unit, which is expected to be completed in the fall of 2013. Currently, Paoli Hospital delivers 2,300 babies each year. Thirty-four percent of these deliveries are done via Cesarean section and more than 150 babies are cared for in the Level II NICU. By 2019, it is projected that Paoli will deliver over 2,900 babies annually.
